This 15th century Grade II listed building is
situated in the medieval marketplace in the very heart of the historic city of Wells, Somerset. This two star rated inn with rooms offers traditional hospitality in its bar and restaurant.
The Crown is overlooked by the magnificent Wells Cathedral and the Bishops Palace with its beautiful grounds and moat. Wells Museum and Vicars' Close are also nearby. The Crown's central location makes a
superb base to tour Wells and the many surrounding attractions in this wonderful part of Somerset.
The Inn has a rich history. Since 1695 when William Penn, a Quaker who later gave his name to Pennsylvania USA, preached from an upper window at The Crown to a crowd of around 3000 in the marketplace below, it has passed through many hands. It has recently been
completely renovated and comfortably furnished in keeping with its 15th century character.
An excellent variety of mouth-watering dishes is served all day, every day in Anton's Bistrot and lounge. The Penn bar, one of Wells busiest, also serves light meals, coffee and cakes.
