3 September 2009

United Airlines this week celebrated the inauguration of its nonstop service between Geneva and Washington D.C. The newly reconfigured Boeing 767-300 features United's new premium cabins, including lie-flat beds in business class, 15.4-inch personal television screens, and more than 150 hours of video entertainment options.

Scott Dolan, United's senior vice president - Airport Operations and Cargo and United Express, said: "We are pleased to introduce this new route and are delighted that it provides greater choice for our customers. Passengers now have the comfort and convenience of direct services linking the cities as well as excellent connections offered through our Washington Dulles hub. The route capitalises on the important commercial ties between Switzerland and the U.S. and strengthens our international route network."

Commenting on the start of the new direct service, Leigh Carter, Charge d'Affaires from the US Embassy in Switzerland, said: "With over 66,000 U.S. citizens registered with us in Switzerland and a roughly equivalent number of Swiss citizens living in the U.S., not to mention the 350,000 Swiss visitors to the U.S. each year, this route opens up a great opportunity for travellers in Geneva and the rest of Switzerland."

Robert Deillon, CEO, Geneva International Airport, said: "United's presence at Geneva International Airport complements our Star Alliance carrier base and increases the options for those travelling between Switzerland and the U.S."

State Councillor and President of the Board of Geneva International Airport. Fran├žois Longchamp emphasized: "United Nations, specialized agencies and NGOs from Geneva will be linked much better to the U.S. capital and to the financial institutions and other organisations based in Washington".

United continues to roll out its multi-million dollar investment in new lie-flat first and business class seats on international flights, providing an enhanced level of comfort and convenience to passengers.

Members of United's Mileage Plus programme who hold Premier status or above may enjoy complimentary seating in Economy Plus, giving them up to five extra inches of legroom on the Boeing 767-300 international routes.
