More holiday options for walking enthusiasts

10 October 2009

HF Holidays – the UK’s largest specialist walking and leisure activity holidays company – has launched its expanded Walking & Outdoor Holidays 2010 brochure which features 20 new itineraries including nine new European and Worldwide guided walking tours and six new trail holidays in the UK and Europe.

Montenegro, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Brazil, Tibet and Yellowstone have all been introduced into the Guided Walking programme for the first time with the 17-day Jewels of Sri Lanka holiday, for example, combining guided walking and sightseeing amid the island’s diverse landscapes.

Highlights include a pilgrim’s trek up Adam’s Peak for a superb sunrise, walking through the central hills and tea estates, taking in the amazing views at ‘World’s End’ as well as visiting ancient cities and southern nature reserves and rainforests.

Available with four departures – February, March, October and November – the cost is £1090 per person (land-only) and £1745 inclusive of return Heathrow flights and transfers. These twin-share prices include 15 nights’ half board in three and four-star accommodation, a full programme of guided walks led by a local tour director and an HF Holidays’ leader, plus sightseeing, entrance fees and local transport.

The expanded range of trail holidays in the UK and Europe includes three new island hopping itineraries – all with guided and self-guided options – in the widely differing environments of the Isles of Scilly, the Hebrides and the Ionian Islands of Greece.

Escape to the Isles of Scilly, for example, and enjoy a range of walks – over heather clad moors, coastal paths, nature trails and cliff-tops – to discover the individual identities of the islands of St Mary’s, Tresco, St Agnes, Gugh, St Martin’s and Bryher.

The guided option is available with three departures in 2010 and costs from £575 per person, twin-share, inclusive of six nights’ half-board hotel, the programme of guided walks with the services of an experienced leader and ferry tickets on walking days.

The company has also added more half-day walking options to its Guided Walking programme. Taking place on selected dates at a choice of its UK Country Houses, the morning walks cover less than 4½ miles with afternoons free for relaxing or exploring independently.
