Long-haul sunshine at short-haul prices
27 October 2009
If you think a long-haul break to enjoy the sunshine this winter is prohibitively expensive, think again, says Premier Holidays. The tour operator is urging travellers to make use of the fabulous long-haul deals available to maximise their enjoyment of the winter sun.
“For those who believe shorter flights equal more money in your pocket to spend on holiday, we urge them to think again,” says David Carlaw, Head of Faraway at Premier Holidays.
“It doesn’t always pay to stay closer to home as long-haul destinations offer fabulous value for money and beneficial exchange rates.
“Destinations in south-east Asia offer fabulous value for money,” adds Carlaw.
Premier Holidays’ sales to Thailand are up 34 per cent year-on-year (since April 2009) and packages for 2010 are already selling well.
“Thailand has an abundance of top hotels and resorts which are competing for guests. As a result, holidaymakers are capitalising on low room rates and offers, including free nights, food and beverage credits and free room upgrades.”
Compared to other popular winter sun destinations, Thailand came up tops for value for money in the Post Office’s Long Haul Barometer 2009. A cup of coffee in Thailand can be bought for just 50p, while coffee-addicts in Japan will be set back £1.44 for a cup. A three-course meal for two (including house wine) costs just £28.20 in Thailand, with Indonesia the next cheapest at £34.99.
And it’s not just in food and drink where you’ll find a bargain.
“Luxury accommodation such as The Peninsula in Bangkok starts at just £68 per person per night and the Bangkok Marriott Resort and Spa from just £41 per person per night,” says Carlaw.
Premier Holidays specialises in tailor-made holidays created to fit individual preferences by a knowledgeable, experienced reservations team. A sample packages to Thailand is 8 nights at the 5-star Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort in Pattaya. From £1,145 per person for travel 7 Jan to 31 Mar 2010. Price includes private transfers, Jet Airways flights from London Heathrow to Bangkok and all taxes.
