3 September 2009
Leeds Carnegie have announced that Yorkshire-based airline Jet2.com will be the clubs official main sponsor for their return to the Guinness Premiership next season as the club unveiled their new look kit.
The kit was modelled by new signing Marco Wentzel who arrived in Leeds this month from South Africa having played for Guinness Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers last season.
Leeds Carnegie fans will get to see their team, complete with five new signings, in their new kit when they play their first game of the season against Newcastle Falcons on Sunday 6th September, kick off 3pm.
The home kit is predominantly dark blue with white and amber bands across the shoulder and down the side. It features the logo of Jet2.com on the front alongside that of associate sponsors Caddicks and kit suppliers ISC. The alternative shirt is white with green and purple bands, the colours of major partners Leeds Metropolitan University. The replica shirts will be available for supporters to buy from the beginning of August.
Commenting on the announcement Leeds Rugby Commercial Director Rob Oates said, “We are delighted that Jet2.com have decided to increase their support of the club this season, especially as it is such a significant year for us on our return to the Guinness Premiership. Jet2.com are fantastic partners and have been for three years. I am sure that the players will do the kit proud as they take on teams from across England, Wales, Italy, France and Romania in the forthcoming season.”
Marco Wentzel, who recently played against the British and Irish Lions on their tour of South Africa, is delighted to finally arrive at Headingley Carnegie. He added, “It is really great to finally be here now and I am looking forward to getting to know my team mates and my way around Leeds.
“The new kit looks great and I am sure there will be lots of fans wearing them on the opening day of the season when we take on Newcastle," added Wentzel.
Ian Gill, Marketing Director, Jet2.com, said, “As a family and leisure airline, we like to support the community around us, as much as we can. Headingley Carnegie is a great family destination for Leeds and the surrounding areas and as such we are thrilled to be involved and look forward to a successful season ahead.”
