Local film star Matthew Lewis made a special appearance at Leeds Bradford Airport this week as he boarded a flight to Jersey to do a talk at Drama Lab, Jersey’s new drama school and a photo signing for Help A Jersey Child.

Matthew, who is originally from Leeds, shot to fame playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films based on books by J.K Rowling.

As ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ continues to ride high at the top of the film charts, Matthew is taking time out of his busy schedule to visit the Drama Lab students at the end of the first week of their summer school – Acting for Television - which is running for three weeks. Matthew will be talking to the students about his life in Harry Potter and answering questions from the budding actors.

Today he will be doing a charity signing for Help A Jersey Child where people can make a donation to the charity in exchange for a signed photo of Matthew Lewis as his character Neville Longbottom.

Matthew commented: “It’s great to be able to take time out to make this trip and it was a real honour to be asked to be involved with Drama Lab and Help A Jersey Child.

“Young actors need support, direction and guidance whilst trying to break into the acting world and Drama Lab is the perfect place to do this.

“I would also like to say a big thank you to for kindly agreeing to support the trip with flights to Jersey and for looking after me so well whilst on-board.”

Drama Lab started doing Summer Workshops four years ago and started with 30 students. Pippa and Paul Adams are the directors of the school and between them have 50 years of experience in theatre, television and as professional actors, having worked all over the world in their profession.

Philip Meeson, boss of said: “It’s a great honour to be transporting a Leeds-based Hollywood superstar on a flight. Matthew’s career is going from strength to strength and is proud to support a local star.”
