Gulf Air increases baggage allowance
7 October 2009
Bahrain's National carrier Gulf Air is to increase its free checked baggage allowance in all three classes, giving it one of the most generous baggage allowance policies of all the major carriers worldwide.
The new baggage policy will enter into force from 1 October. Gulf Air First, Business and Economy baggage allowances will all increase by 10kgs taking them to 50kgs, 40kgs and 30kgs respectively. The new Gulf Air allowance is 10kgs more than the standard allowance provided by most airlines worldwide.
Gold and Silver members of Gulf Air's frequent flyer programme are also entitled to an additional baggage allowance of 15kgs for silver members and 20kgs for gold card members.
Mr. Willy Boulter, Gulf Air Chief Commercial Officer said: "Our decision to increase the allowance is in direct response to feedback from our customers who are looking for greater flexibility in the amount of free-checked luggage they can carry when flying. Many of our customers travel to destinations on the Gulf Air network for extended periods to visit friends and family as well as for work related commitments and therefore need to carry more luggage than the standard allowance provides for. As we strive to be the airline of choice, our priority is to guarantee our customers excellence in service and value for money when travelling with us. Our new baggage allowance is an excellent example of this."
The Airline's new baggage allowance policy will apply to all Gulf Air operated flights across its entire network of over 42 destinations in 26 countries. Passengers combining their Gulf Air flights with another airlines' operated service will still be subject to the baggage allowances of that airline. This includes codeshare flights which are operated by another carrier but have a Gulf Air flight number. Passengers are advised to check online at gulfair.com before travelling for a clear explanation on the new rules.
