Welcome to the Murray Arms Hotel and Restaurant, historic 3 star hotel in Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway. Established in 1760, the Murray Arms is a listed building retaining much of its character and original features - such as white-washed walls which are traditional to the area.
The cottage is situated within the Arched House, built in 1791 by Thomas Carlyle´s father and uncle, and the site of his birth four years later. The house is furnished to reflect the domestic style of Carlyle´s time and on show is a notable collection of portraits and the writer´s belongings.
