Clifton House Hotel is an historic landmark in the town of Dolgellau. The 17th century cellars were once the old Merionydd County Gaol and the upper storeys dating from 1820 have in the past been used as a tavern and surgeons house.

Facilities:
There are seven comfortably furnished bedrooms all with tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and colour television. Four of these have en-suite facilities one of which is on the ground floor and suitable for accompanied wheel chair users. The en-suite rooms were refurbished to a high standard at the end of 2002.
The ´Old County Gaol Restaurant´ is the pride of the hotel. Situated in the cellar of the house which was originally the ´County Gaol´ from 1730 to around 1815, the restaurant is well known locally for the serving of quality local produce at reasonable prices in an unpretentious menu.
